It all started when members of the Nationalist Party dumped bags of pig intestines on the parliament floor to protest a policy allowing beef and pork imports from the U.S. When the opposing lawmakers tried to stop them, a scuffle broke out with fistfights and shoving matches.

"It's an embarrassment for Taiwan," Lev Nachman, a PhD student at the University of California at Irvine and a Fulbright scholar who studies Taiwanese politics, said. "But Taiwanese people absolutely care about this issue, and if there's one issue to go all-in on, this is it."

But this is nothing new, as Taiwan's parliament sessions have a rowdy history -- with fights involving thrown chairs, eggs, and water balloons -- all of which have happened before!

The ban on U.S. pork imports is set to be lifted in January. Read the full report on The Washington Post.
