During this past week, Gov. Gavin Newsom met with elected officials and humanitarian aid leaders in San Diego to discuss a plan for an immigration rapid response program, NBC 7 San Diego reports.
The governor's proposed budget would include $25 million so it could help organizations offer services to asylum seekers. As well this deal would make $5 million available to other groups across the state this year.
"Providing beds, clothing, and health services, legal aid and travel arrangements to make sure those families connect with a loved one across the country as they wait to continue their asylum process," San Diego Rapid Response Network's Norma Chavez-Peterson said.
This isn't Newsom's first trip to San Diego in regards to the border. In November, he toured an Immigration Detention Center and shelter for asylum seekers and while he was here he believed it U.S-Mexico border was a true "humanitarian crisis."
But come March 31, when California's current agreement to provide the Natural Guard along the border expires, Gavin Newsom plans on withdrawing the guard from his duties.

This isn't the governor's first time under fire for his questionable actions, during his time as mayor of San Francisco in 2008, he was faced with controversy when it was reported that undocumented young people were arrested for felonies to federal immigration authorities.
