Family of Anthony Avalos Call for Investigation of Social Workers

The family of 10-year-old Anthony Avalos is calling for a criminal investigation of the social workers involved in the boy's case before he died.

Anthony was killed after allegedly being tortured by his mother and his mother's boyfriend, who have both been charged with murder in the innocent boy's death.

The family's attorney Brian Claypool held a news conference Tuesday morning discussing the "shocking details" in the Department of Children and Family Services records of the abuse Anthony received in his own home.

The DCFS document is suggested to reveal that Anthony's mother, Heather Barron, 28, had been declared "unable or unwilling to protect the child from serious harm, including physical and sexual abuse."

"I have never seen more red flags of an impending death of a child than in the case of Anthony Avalos," Claypool said.

Anthony's father, Victor Avalos, was also present at the news conference and expressed his sadness over the loss of his son and the hopes that no other children get failed by the system again.

Claypool will be on John and Ken today at 3pm with more on the news conference and the case against the failing social workers.
