Death Row Inmate Pushes for New DNA Testing in Murder Case

In 1983, Kevin Cooper a convicted burglar and prison escapee, was accused of hacking two adults and two children to death in San Bernardino County. Cooper was convicted of the murders and sentenced to death but he has long suggested his innocence. 

Cooper escaped from the California Institution for Men in Chico a few days before the murders. 

His supporters claim that he was "framed by sheriff’s deputies, undone by poor defense lawyers and railroaded by racism."

Cooper has asked Gov. Jerry Brown to look into new DNA testing that could give him a chance at clemency and could prove he was framed. 

The courts have long considered the case closed but the national attention Cooper has garnered presents hope.
