18-year-old Obdulia Sanchez from Stockton is in Merced County Jail after being booked on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter, in connection to the car crash that killed her sister and seriously injured another 14-year-old passenger.
Sanchez was driving drunk while she livestreamed the crash that killed her 14-year-old-sister, who was just days away from celebrating her quinceañera.
Jacqueline Sanchez wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car after Obdulia Sanchez lost control and crashed through a barbed wire fence.
Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke said:
“She (Jacqueline) was in the back seat of the vehicle and allegedly un-seat-belted and upon the vehicle rolling over, ejecting her and killing her."
Obdulia Sanchez was livestreaming herself on Instagram when the crash happened. She kept the stream going during the aftermath and screamed:
“Jacqueline, please wake up! I f—ing killed my sister, OK? I know I’m going to jail for life! I understand that! I don’t f—ing care, though, I’m sorry, baby! I’m gonna hold it down."
Mary Hernandez happened to see the livestream in real time and recorded it:
“At first we didn’t even want to believe it was real. We were like, ‘Oh no, that’s makeup.' So I recorded it and posted it — mainly, as somebody who uses Snapchat, I see a lot of people driving with their Snapchat and doing what she was doing.”
Don't drink and drive, and put your damn phone in the glovebox.
