Hilary Duff To Return As 'Lizzie McGuire' For Disney+ Streaming Service

Ever wondered what Lizzie McGuire's been up to since discovering her pop-star body double in Rome? Since performing in her place to thousands at the Colosseum? Since exposing rival pop-star Paulo Valisari as a fraud? Disney's new streaming service Disney+ is set to answer all your questions! The hit sitcom is due for a reboot with actress and recording artist Hilary Duff reprising her role as the titular character.

The "Come Clean" singer was a surprise guest of Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer for Disney Channels Worldwide, at Disney's D23 Exposition on Friday. They both teased the program's return during a Disney+ sneak peek showcase. The show's original creator, Terri Minsky, will be back at the helm of this reboot and at this time it's not known of any original cast-members will be joining Duff on-screen.

Viewers last joined McGuire on a whirlwind Italian study abroad trip in 2003's The Lizzie McGuire Movie. After an almost 17 year time jump, Duff shared that Lizzie is now living her dream life in New York City with a job as an assistant to a "fancy" decorator. Although she's navigating her 30's, McGuire's childish, animated inner dialogue will continue to persist. Hilariously, she also noted that this time around Lizzie will have a much bigger shoe budget.

The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up. She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget...she has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now. She’s working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator. She has her dream guy, who owns a cool SoHo restaurant. She has her dream apartment in Brooklyn. And she’s getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday.

After appearing on-stage, Hilary shared a Lizzie McGuire compilation video on Instagram breaking the news to her 12.7 million followers.

SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl...and into her 30’s

Disney+ starts streaming on November 12th 2019 and the reboot has yet to be given a release date.
