With 4/20 here, it's only right that I make a list of some snacks to eat when you're high as a kite, without feeling disgusting the next day. Everyone who has smoked weed before knows how quickly the munchies can turn "Oooh look some chips! I'll have a few" into eating 75% of everything in your house. Now as good as it tastes, eating a whole carton of ice cream isn't exactly the most nutritious meal, and with summer coming up, we cant let our beach bods turn into couch blobs. With that being said, here is a list of my personal favorite healthy alternative snacks for all of your munchie needs. Happy 4/20!
1. Fresh Fruit!
Blueberries, bananas, melons, grapes, you name it; Fresh fruit is a perfect go-to for a healthier alternative to junk food. Fruit is jam-packed with vitamins, nutrients, fiber (to make you full quicker), and naturally occurring sugars that satisfy your sweet tooth without the extra calories. My personal favorite are blueberries; 1. Because they're friggin delicious and 2. Because blueberries are pretty damn fun to eat (play with) when you're high.
Popcorn is a top 5 snack of all time to start with, so the fact that its actually not bad for you easily makes it a contender for GOAT (greatest of all time) healthy munchie snacks. Now as much as we all love kettle corn and zebra corn, thats not the popcorn I'm talking about. That stuff, along with most pre-popped flavor options out there, are loaded with sugar, saturated fats, and sodium. To make a healthy, but still delicious version, you can use butter alternatives like olive oil or coconut oil, and satisfy all of your popped kernel needs without feeling guilty.
Nuts are a perfect bite-sized snack that satisfies your hunger while providing your body with loads of nutrients and vitamins. AND, similar to berries, nuts are also fun to play with when you're stoned (that didn't come out right, but you know what I mean). Be careful though; Many nuts have high fat levels, so you might not want to eat an entire 1lb bag of soy & wasabi flavored almonds...Yes I've done that before.
4. Wheat Toast and Almond Butter
Yes, specifically wheat and almond. Both of these variants are significantly healthier than their more popular counterparts. White bread goes through a refinement process that strips it of many key nutrients, including fiber, healthy fats, and protein. Wheat bread (Whole grain) on the other hand keeps all of these nutrients, making it a much wiser choice. Almond butter essentially has less fat and sodium in it than peanut butter (I'm convinced that almond butter is a scam but thats what the experts say). Adding bananas and honey can take this snack to a different level if you're up to the task.
5. Protein (Shakes and Bars)
This one is pretty self-explanatory. I mean, body builders and athletically inclined people literally live on protein. There are hundreds and hundreds of different protein products on the market, so just look for ones that are low in carbohydrates/fat and high in protein/fiber. If we all just eat this every time we get the munchies we'll just build an army of jacked super-stoners, so I'm with it.
Tacos friggin rule...It's as simple as that. REAL tacos, that is. I'm definitely not talking about whatever the hell is in that "taco" in the Jack-n-the-Box Munchie Meals (which are very very unhealthy btw if you didn't know that already). Im talking about authentic tacos, or even better, home-made tacos if you can cook. Tacos are made of vegetables, meat, and a tortilla, so theres really nothing there thats going to kill your diet.
7. Halo-Top Ice Cream
Now that I think about it, this one should most definitely be number one on the list. A WHOLE PINT of this stuff ranges from 250 calories-350 tops...thats literally heaven for a healthy stoner. It doesn't get better than that honestly.
8. Kodiak Protein pancakes
I'm getting into more brand specific snacks now because I pretty much covered the main food groups already. Eating pancakes when you're high is the pinnacle of happiness. Unfortunately, regular pancakes are pretty much all carbs, plus when you throw some butter and syrup on its pretty much dessert. HOWEVER, Kodiak Protein pancakes are equally, if not more delicious than regular pancakes, and they're chocolate flavored...Win win.
9. Low Calorie Juice/Fruit Drinks
Cotton-mouth is probably the most unpleasant side effect of smoking weed, so instead of grabbing a soda or a juice (which is LOADED with sugar), go ahead and try some Vitamin Water Zero or Minute Made Light. They're delicious and virtually void of calories.
10. More Weed
