Fresh & Ready Foods recalled "some ready-to-eat sandwiches and snack items" on May 10 due to "possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes."

According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, the recalled ready-to-eat sandwiches and snack items were placed in "vending and break room areas within corporate offices, medical buildings and healthcare facilities" across four states including California.

Concerns were "identified through environmental monitoring conducted by the FDA during a site inspection, which resulted in a positive finding for Listeria monocytogenes on a piece of equipment."

Consumers should throw out Fresh & Ready Foods ready-to-eat sandwiches and snacks that feature Use Buy dates "4/22/2025 to 05/19/2025."

Per the FDA, Listeria "is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems."

Symptoms of a Listeria monocytogenes infection include "high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea." Being infected with this organism can also "cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."

As of Monday (May 11) 10 people have been hospitalized, allegedly for eating the recalled ready-to-eat sandwiches and snacks, per People.
