New Zealand Kayaker Rescues Trapped Dog in Canada

A New Zealand kayaker, Tom Hudson, became an unexpected hero while on a cross-country canoe trip in Canada. While paddling near The Pas in Manitoba on July 29th, Hudson heard faint barking and discovered a 14-year-old Great Pyrenees named Ivy trapped under a log and weighed down by mud.

Ivy, who had wandered from her home and become stuck in the river, was too exhausted to escape. Hudson lifted the log, carried her through knee-deep mud, and carefully placed her on his canoe. He paddled downstream to a nearby dock, where he found Ivy's owner, Tom Stait, who had been searching for his dog the previous day.

Stait expressed his gratitude, noting that without Hudson's help, Ivy might never have been found. Hudson, who documented his journey on social media, was invited to stay with Stait's family before continuing his trip. Though he didn’t reach his final destination of Montreal, Hudson plans to return next spring to finish the voyage, leaving with a deep appreciation for Canada’s kindness and wildlife.
