Karen Bass Sworn In As Los Angeles' First Black Female Mayor

Karen Bass was sworn in as the first female Black mayor of Los Angeles on Sunday, by Vice President Kamala Harris -- administered the oath of office at Los Angeles City Hall.

Bass directed her plans to solve the city's housing crisis, "with some 40,000 people living on the streets, and said her first act as mayor will be to declare a state of emergency on homelessness"

Homelessness in the Los Angeles region has hit an all-time high since the pandemic exploded.

"My emergency declaration will recognize the severity of our crisis and break new ground to maximize our ability to urgently move people inside, and to do so for good," Bass said.

Bass has previously mentioned to assist Los Angeles heal and tap her connections within the local, state and federal government to solve LA's most important issues.
