Long Beach Councilmember Rex Richardson on the city's back-to-school plans

Today we were joined again by Long Beach Councilmember Rex Richardson, who discussed a number of issues with us including how his city is handling the 2020-2021 school year.

Yesterday Long Beach officials announced a drop in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, and they also announced requirements for schools once they get the go-ahead to reopen.

Mayor Robert Garcia said the average number of hospitalizations over the last four weeks was 82.9, but that has dropped to 77.9 over the last two weeks.

Garcia said, "That is telling us there is no spike. There is definitely a flattening out, and there is a possibility that now we are seeing a decline in hospitalizations. We hope this trend continues.”

Councilmember Richardson gave us his thoughts on the COVID drop in his city, and talked more about the discussions being had on how to handle the new school year. Richardson also talked with us about Long Beach's Racial Equity and Reconciliation Initiative.
