Well let's polish up the Ridiculous Desk and drag it out because this story is incredibly ridiculous. Audi recently had an ad showing a little girl eating a banana in front of a red RS4 with the caption "Lets your heart beat faster -- in every aspect."
Well apparently this ad didn't go over well with the crazies on Twitter because people complained that the ad was sexually suggestive and that it was dangerous to have a child standing in front of a car.
“Are you crazy? Is this advertising to kill children?”
Another said:
That’s just shameful. You can do better! Get a few women and mothers into the team and the leadership team. They can then tell you what’s wrong with the motif.”
Seriously! What is wrong with people?! We don't see anything wrong with the picture, but it seems the Twitter scolds can't get their own minds out of the gutter. Audi eventually caved to the mob and posted an apology:
“We hear you and let’s get this straight: We care for children. The Audi RS 4 is a family car with more than thirty driver assistance systems including an emergency brake system. That’s why we showcased it with various family members for the campaign.
We hoped we could convey these messages, showing that even for the weakest traffic participants it is possible to relaxingly lean on the RS technology. That was a mistake! Audi never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.
We sincerely apologize for this insensitive image and ensure that it will not be used in future. We will also immediately examine internally, how this campaign has been created and if control mechanisms failed in this case.”
This world is truly a bizarre place, and we're ready to get off. Who's ready for Mars? Let's go!
