Is COVID-19 causing a decline in Helicopter Parenting?

You know the term 'Helicopter Parent,' right? It's the phrase for those overbearing parents to have their fingers in every aspect of their kid's life. Well know that we've all been locked up together since March, and it looks like it'll probably be this way through the rest of the year, those Helicopter Parents are finally realizing that it's okay to back off a bit.

An article from the Wall Street Journal profiles a woman who let her 14-year-old daughter finally do something that never would have happened before Coronavirus. She let her daughter ride a bike into town without an adult!

She used to be a hardcore Helicopter Parent, but the months long stay-at-home order has her allowing her daughter and 12-year-old son to get out of the house more on their own and be free from constant planned activities.

Of course going too far one way could lead to kids spending too much time online, on the phone, etc. but that's why life is about balance! You don't need to be an obsessive helicopter person and you don't need to be completely uninvolved.

Justin Worsham, our good friend and host of The Dad Podcast, joined us this afternoon to discuss the article from the Wall Street Journal and told us how he's been dealing with his two boys this summer. Listen below!
