Today's #SmallBusinessShoutout features Bagger Sports and Big Fly Graphics in Santa Clarita! We spoke with owners Norma and Hector Perez, who told us the history of their business and how things have been impacted by COVID-19:
Bagger Sports is a team Sports store locally owned and operated in Santa Clarita. It was founded in 2009 by Norma and Hector Perez, who've been involved in local sports from coaching, volunteering and managing local leagues for several decades.
As the company name implies ("four-bagger" is slang for homerun), the business originated from a passion for Baseball and Softball. Bagger Sports continues its focus on providing baseball/softball equipment and apparel from the top brands in the sport. It is considered one of the largest sports stores on the west coast dedicated to baseball and sotfball.
The business evolved over the years by expanding its offering of custom uniforms, embroidery, screen printing, spiritwear, wide format printing, and more. The COVID-19 pandemic has been very challenging for the company. With schools closed, sports being cancelled, and the stay at home mandate ordered at the start of the Spring Baseball and Softball season, it brought business to a complete standstill. Even online orders on baggersports.com have been impacted.
During challenging times, Hector and Norma believe that they must always look for opportunities and most importantly, keep moving forward. Bagger Sports was born out of the Great Recession of 2008, but because of their passion for sports and their community they were able to make a success story.
With school and sports being shut down,the Perez family pivoted quickly and started Big Fly Graphics. Big Fly is focused on corporate apparel, fashion prints, special event screen printing, embroidery, decals, banners, promotional products and so much more. It is a great complimentary business for Bagger Sports.
Hector and Norma look forward to the day when their store store is filled with baseball and softball players, moms and dads, coaches, volunteers and sports fans just talking shop
