Jane Wells on how COVID-19 is impacting food and farm industries

We heard some pretty grim news over the weekend. It was especially grim news for Shannon because we learned that the largest pork producer in the world is closing one of it's American plants indefinitely after an outbreak of Coronavirus among its workers.

The Souix Falls, South Dakota plant reported more than 200 cases of COVID-19 and adds to a number of other meat workers across the country who have become sick. It's not clear if workers became infected because of conditions at the facility, however this news does freak us out because if infected people are handling meat this can only mean bad things for the food supply as a whole.

It's not just the meat industry taking a hit too. The dairy industry is also dealing with bad side effects from Coronavirus. There are reports of dairy farmers up and down California having to dump their supply into manure pods.

To add even more on top of that, what if farmers and field workers are sick? The food supply chain is like one giant elaborate domino set up. Thankfully, we have Jane Wells here to sort this mess out for us!
