Obesity is on the rise around the globe and not decreasing. Countries are not on track to achieve World Health Organizations goal on obesity to reduce the epidemic.
Over 200 countries had agreed previously to reduce obesity levels by 2025. However, there is a less than 10% chance of doing so according to the World Health Organization.
One in five adults are projected to be obese by 2025.
The WOF head Johanna Ralston says:
“The absence of a comprehensive view of obesity has translated into fragmented health systems, weak policies and poor translation of medical knowledge into widely available prevention and care.”
The WOF is launching a declaration on obesity, to combat this growing epidemic.
The highest rate of obesity increases continues to be concentrated in low and middle income countries.
Furthermore, it was apparent that obesity programs lacked in areas of lower income around the world.
