A man who police say is an active gang member is in custody today after a vehicle pursuit in Pomona. Sergio '' Silent'' Pinon, 34, a San Bernardino resident, was arrested on one count of felony evading, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition, said Sgt. Mark Medellin of the Pomona Police Department.
Officers from the department's Major Crimes Task Force were in the area of 2400 Chanslor St. at 12:40 p.m. Friday when they saw a speeding vehicle with expired registration tabs and a pursuit began after the vehicle failed to stop, Medellin said.
The officers recognized the driver and passenger as active gang members in the local area and the vehicle stopped briefly to let out the passenger, Juan ''Lazy'' Rosales, who fled on foot but was quickly caught. The driver, Pinon, eventually stopped again and ran from the officers, according to police. Officers soon found him hiding in an apartment laundry room.
Police found a loaded firearm during a search of the vehicle and Pinon admitted it was his, according to Medellin.
