Chef Susan is one of the Head Chef’s at Socalo Restaurant. Located within Santa Monica’s Gateway Hotel, Socalo is a beachy, California canteen and Mexican pub from award-winning chef/owners Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. In 2018, Feniger and Milliken were named the recipients of the fourth annual Julia Child Award from The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, marking the first women to be honored. The distinction complements additional accolades, including the Elizabeth Burns Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Restaurant Association in 2013; earned induction into Menu Masters Hall of Fame in 2014; and the 2018 Gold Award from the Los Angeles Times for culinary excellence and innovation in Southern California.
Socalo serves conscientiously-sourced, seasonal SoCal Mexican fare with quick counter service at brunch and lunch while dinner shifts to full-service dining alongside cocktails featuring small-batch spirits, Mexican wines and craft beers on tap. Socalo uses organic rice, beans, and corn tortillas; seasonal, local ingredients; antibiotic/hormone-free meats and poultry; and sustainable seafood.
Socalo’s special Cinco de Mayo menu features $5 tacos, $5 beer, and $8-$10 cocktails and Mexican wines all day. This special menu is available 11:30am to 8pm for dine-in only, in addition to the regular all day menu which is available for dine-in and takeout/delivery. Indoor and outdoor patio seating available. Lunch is counter service, reservations available from 4pm to close at socalo.com
