Costco's Free Samples Are Coming Back! But Their Half-Sheet Cakes Aren't...

If you're a frequent Costco shopper, I've got some good news and some bad news for you -

The good news is that some Costco stores have started to bring back their legendary free samples!

The bad news? Costco will no longer sell their half sheet cakes...

Costco got rid of their free food samples back in early March, thanks to the coronavirus. But about 30 clubs in 16 states will now start bringing them back again, according to Club Demonstration Services, the vendor that handles all of Costco's food sampling.

"Starting slowly will allow Costco and us to make sure we are taking the right steps to engage members safely, while maintaining the proper controls around the demo cart," Don Dohanyos, Costco's president said. "We will take the lessons learned in our early demos to improve our overall processes while we prepare for future rollouts."

Of course, sampling food at Costco will be a little bit different once it finally makes a comeback to your local store. Moving forward, they will only offer samples of prepackaged items, and all samples will be kept behind plexiglass shields until served.

"It’s not going to be where you go and just pick up an open sample with your fingers," Costco CFO Richard Galanti said.

But one thing that won't be coming back to Costco anytime soon is their infamous half sheet cakes...

According to a Facebook post from the company, they decided to pull the cakes from stores to "help limit personal contact and create more space for social distancing."

"We are focusing on our smaller 10-inch White and 10-inch Chocolate Cakes that seem to be resonating with our members," the company said in a statement.
