Authorities say 27-year-old Ji Chaoquan conducted background checks on engineers, scientists and defense contractors with the goal of recruiting them to work for the Chinese government.
Ji is a Chinese national who entered the U.S. on a student visa in 2013 and enlisted in the Army Reserves in 2016. Investigators found emails and text messages exchanged with a Chinese intelligence officer.
Chaoquan only needs to be convicted of one count of espionage in order to receive a sentence of 10 years.
All this fits in really well with the recently reported findings that China had/has been attempting to recruit spies here in the U.S. via Linkedin.
