Olympic bobsled medalist Aja Evans has initiated legal action against the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, alleging that she experienced nearly a decade of “sexual abuse and harassment” by the team’s doctor.
Dr. John Wilhelm is accused in the complaint, which was submitted on Thursday in a New York court, of repeatedly touching 'Evans’ genitals and inner groin area … despite no issues specific to that area."
According to the lawsuit, Wilhelm's alleged misbehavior continued for nearly ten years at the USA Bobsleigh headquarters in New York. Evans claims that she and the rest of her team made these reports the “predatory conduct” to USA Bobsled in 2017, but nothing was done about it.
Ryan J. Stevens, the lawyer for Wilhelm, claims that the allegation is false in a statement released on Thursday.
Dr. Wilhelm wholeheartedly denies the detestable claims against him," Stevens writes. "He has not yet had the opportunity to defend any of these baseless claims in court or through the litigation process, but he looks forward to doing so."
