This holiday season, more housekeepers, hairdressers, and gardeners are likely to get annual tips.

A new study looked at tipping and discovered that while Americans do it, the benefits may be lower than expected due to inflation. According to Bankrate.com, the median tip for service providers who typically receive once-a-year tips around the holidays will most likely be lower than in previous years.

Some companies, such as FedEx and UPS, discourage their employees from accepting tips, but they do acknowledge that gift baskets of snacks and soft drinks are also appreciated. The poll also reports that an average end-of-year gratuity for housekeepers and childcare workers in 2021 was $50. Last year, the average gratuity for landscapers and teachers was $30 and $25, respectively.

The median gratuity for housekeepers and childcare providers this holiday season will be $40 and $25, respectively.
