Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has introduced legislation that would put a freeze on importing, buying, or selling handguns.
The bill would also limit magazine capacities and even go as far as banning look-alike toy guns.
The new legislation comes just a week after a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers in their classroom in Uvalde, Texas.
Minister of emergency preparedness Bill Blair, says Canada is very different from the U.S because "In Canada, gun ownership is a privilege, not a right."
Canada already has plans in place to ban 1,500 types of military-style firearms along with a mandatory buyback program later this year.
