California Suspends Plastic Bag Ban Over Concerns of Coronavirus Spread

In an effort to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus, California has suspended its ban on plastic bags.

The ban passed in 2016 prohibited the use of thin plastic single-use bags and made paper ones come with a 10-cent charge.

Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order that would allow those rules to be put aside for the next 60 days.

Newsom called the move necessary to minimize the risk of exposure for workers performing essential activities as handling customer's reusable bags could spread the virus.

Many supermarkets had already stopped shoppers from using their own reusable bags prior to this order in an attempt to further protect their employees.
