Man Shows Up to DUI Hearing Drunk

According to WDIV Local 4 news, in Harrison Township, Michigan, officials reported that James Gird, 57, showed up to his court hearing severely intoxicated after being arrested for driving under the influence on December 30.

Magistrate James A. Verploeg ordered sobriety tests in the middle of the hearing once he noticed several instances of slurring during conversation, which revealed Gird’s blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit. Apparently, police found an empty bottle of vodka in his car outside the courthouse.

Due to his issues with alcohol, County Prosecutor Eric Smith authorized a misdemeanor charge against Gird for operating a vehicle under the influence - again. Gird has since been arraigned and is awaiting his next hearing.
