Over the weekend, President Trump's re-election campaign released a new ad that is raising a few eyebrows.
The ad features an illegal alien, twice deported from the U.S., who is accused of murdering two California police officers in 2014.
It also features shots of President Trump, border wall prototypes, and Democrats Sen. Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin and this comment:
“Democrats who stand in our way will be complicit in EVERY murder committed by illegal immigrants.
Here's the ad.
According to Vox:
"The press release accompanying the ad, which is titled "Complicit," places the blame for the government shutdown on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for "holding lawful citizens hostage over their demands for amnesty for illegal immigrants."
On "Meet The Press" this weekend, the White House's Legislative affairs director, Marc Short, initially tried to distance the White House from the ad, saying the ad was done by an 'outside group' and not anyone 'inside' the White House.
But when host Chuck Todd asked, more specifically, if the ad was really helping the negotiations for a funding deal. Short said:
"I'm telling you, the data of the ad shows that there are people coming across our border that pose threats to our country. I think it's helpful to continue to raise awareness of the crisis we have."
