Cruise Ship Murder "She Wouldn't Stop Laughing At Me"

Kenneth Manzanares has been detained and is facing charges of murder in the death of his 39-year-old wife, Kristy, while the two were on a cruise in Alaska.

The incident happened on Princess Cruises Emerald Princess cruise ship Tuesday night while the ship was traveling from Ketchikan to Juneau.

According to federal investigators, security and medical personnel responded to an 'incident' in the cabin occupied by the couple after other travelers heard screaming.

One witness says he entered the cabin and saw the woman on the floor 'in a pool of blood' and Kenneth Manzanares with blood on his hands and clothing.

When he asked Manzanares what happened, the witness said he replied, "She would not stop laughing at me."

The witness said he then saw Manzanares grab his wife's body and pull her "toward the balcony," and he grabbed the woman's ankles to prevent that.  Security personnel arrived in the cabin shortly after that.

Kristy Manzanares was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m.  Officials said she had a "severe head wound" and blood was splattered "all over the cabin."

Yesterday, in a press conference, an FBI spokesperson said this was a "domestic dispute" and described the crime scene as "small."  They said 15 agents interviewed more than 200 passengers and crew including other family members of the couple who were also on board the ship.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for August 10th.
