Did you encounter the wrong way driver on the 5 freeway near Santa Clarita last night?
Around 5:30pm drivers on the 5 North encountered what witnesses described as a 'blue PT Crusier' driving the WRONG WAY in their lanes! (others report it was actually a Chevy HHR)
Another driver going southbound caught it on cell phone video.
It shows the car driving southbound in the northbound lanes, slowly at first, narrowly missing other cars. But then he picks up speed, which could have led to a very tragic situation.
Witness Vincent Contarino told CBS News that it was a California Highway Patrol officer that helped end the terrifying situation. Contarino was headed northbound on the 5 when he saw a CHP officer take action by literally slamming into the vehicle head-on to get him to stop:
"The guy was coming the wrong way, and we all doing, ya know, 70. He (the CHP officer) went right up to the nose of it, he was pointing his gun at him, telling him to get out of the car. He tried to back up and hit again, finally got the guy out of the car and he arrested him."
The driver of the car was arrested for...you guessed it...suspicion of DUI.
