Stanley has recalled approximately 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs due to a burn hazard. The recall, announced Thursday (December 12), was posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website. The issue arises from the mug's lid threads, which can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use. This defect has led to 38 burn injuries worldwide, with two occurring in the United States. Eleven of these injuries required medical attention.
The affected mugs, made in China, are double-walled stainless steel and come in various colors and sizes, including 12-ounce, 16-ounce, and 20-ounce models. They were sold at major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Target from June 2016 through December 2024, priced between $20 and $50. The mugs have a polypropylene lid and bear specific product identification numbers, which can be found on the bottom of the mugs.
Stanley has received 91 reports of the lids detaching, with 16 reports from the U.S. Customers are advised to stop using the mugs immediately and contact Stanley for a free replacement lid. The company emphasized its commitment to quality and improvement, stating, "At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and are focused on creating quality products that are built for life."
