LA County Gas Prices Rise For 10th Straight Day

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose Sunday for the 10th consecutive day, increasing 1.4 cents to $4.921, its highest amount since April 25.

The average price has risen 9.3 cents over the past 10 days, including 1.6 cents Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The streak of increases follows a run of six decreases in seven days totaling 2.4 cents.

The average price is 6.2 cents more than one week ago and nine-tenths of a cent higher than one month ago, but $1.205 lower than one year ago. It has dropped $1.573 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5.

The Orange County average price rose for the ninth time in 10 days, increasing 1.2 cents to $4.901, its highest amount since April 20. It has risen 11.2 cents over the past 10 days, including 2.5 cents both Friday and Saturday.

The Orange County average price is 7.6 cents more than one week ago and 3 cents higher than one month ago, but $1.20 lower than one year ago. It has dropped $1.558 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5.

The increases are expected to continue because of refinery issues, according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations.

The national average price dropped one-tenth of a cent to $3.578 after rising 3.6 cents over the previous four days, including seven-tenths of a cent Saturday. It is 3.9 cents more than one week ago, but 4.9 cents less than one month ago and $1.023 lower than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.438 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14.
