LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man was rushed to a trauma center after falling from the Sixth Street Bridge into the Los Angeles River Sunday, traveling at least three-quarters of a mile downstream, authorities said.

Firefighters were dispatched to the bridge at 9:59 a.m., according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"The man traveled over three-quarters of a mile southbound in the water, passed under the Santa Monica (10) Freeway and managed to escape the water flow, before getting to the Olympic Bridge," Prange said.

"The man had injuries and waited on the (river) bank for LAFD personnel who evaluated, treated and prepared him for transport," he added.
