SEAL BEACH (CNS) - A 36-year-old motorcyclist was killed before sunrise Thursday in a collision with a Caltrans attenuator truck on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Seal Beach.

The crash was reported about 4:45 a.m. near Seal Beach Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, the motorcyclist and a 2017 Ford F650 truck were both traveling on the northbound side of the freeway just south of Seal Beach Boulevard "when for reasons which are still under investigation, the (motorcyclist) collided with the Ford."

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, but the CHP noted they were a resident of Huntington Beach.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to call the CHP Westminster Area office during business hours at 714-892-4426.

Attenuator trucks are parked in front of fixed and temporary structures at construction projects on highways, diversion intersections, crash barriers and overpass supports to act as a protective cushion device intended to absorb high-energy kinetic impact.
