Laurie Metcalf, Nathan Lane Among Winners At Creative Arts Emmys

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Laurie Metcalf won her fourth Emmy and Nathan Lane his first as the two-night 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards concluded with awards presented for scripted programming in 48 categories.

Sunday's awards was the second night of presentations at the at the Microsoft Theater. An edited presentation of the Saturday and Sunday's ceremonies will air at 8 p.m. this Saturday on FXX and be available for streaming on Hulu Sept. 11-27.

Metcalf won for best guest actress in a comedy for her portrayal of the tour manager in HBO's "Hacks." There were three other nominees from "Hacks" in the field --  Jane Adams, Harriet Sansom Harris and Kaitlin Olson.

The other nominees were Harriet Walter, who played the mother of Premier League team owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) in Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso," and Jane Lynch, who portrayed the stunt double for semi-retired actor Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin) in Hulu's "Only Murders In The Building."

The Emmy was the first for Metcalf since winning for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy from 1992-94 for her role as the sister of the character played by Roseanne Barr on "Roseanne." Metcalf was nominated eight times between her victories in 1994 and Sunday.

Lane won for his role as  deli chain owner Teddy Dimas in "Only Murders In The Building," his sixth nomination in the category and seventh overall.

Jerrod Carmichael was trying to follow Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle as the third consecutive "Saturday Night Live" host to win for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series.

There were two nominees from "Ted Lasso" in the field -- James Lance nominated for his portrayal of reporter Trent Crimm and Sam Richardson for his role as a Ghanaian billionaire who tries to persuade AFC Richmond right wing Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh) to sign with the Moroccan team he owns.

The other nominees were Bill Hader, nominated for portraying three characters on an episode of HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and Christopher McDonald, who has the recurring role of Palmetto Casino CEO Marty Ghilain on "Hacks."

HBO's "Succession" accounted for four of the six nominees for outstanding guest actor in a drama series -- Adrien Brody, James Cromwell, Arian Moayed and Alexander Skarsgard -- and three of the six guest actress in a drama series nominees -- Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan and Walter -- but did not win in either category.

Colman Domingo won for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for his recurring role of recovering drug addict Ali Muhammed in the HBO teen drama "Euphoria." Lee You-mi won for outstanding guest actress in a drama series for portraying a player on the South Korean Netflix survival drama "Squid Game."

Both were first-time nominees.

Tom Pelphrey of Netflix's "Ozark" was the other outstanding guest actor in a drama series nominee. The other outstanding guest actress in a drama series nominees were Marcia Gay Harden of Apple TV+'s "The Morning Show" and Martha Kelly of "Euphoria."

The Emmy for outstanding television movie went to Disney+'s live- action/computer-animated action-adventure comedy "Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers," based on characters from the 1989-90 Disney Channel and syndicated animated series of the same name.

The other nominees were Showtime's "Ray Donovan: The Movie," Paramount+'s "Reno 911!: The Hunt For QAnon," HBO/HBO Max's "The Survivor" and The Roku Channel's "Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas."

Most of Sunday's awards were in various technical categories, including hairstyling, makeup, production design, picture editing, sound editing, sound mixing and visual effects.

"Euphoria," "Stranger Things" and "The White Lotus" were Sunday's top winners with five Emmys each.

"Euphoria" also won for outstanding choreography for scripted programming, outstanding cinematography for a single-camera series (one hour), outstanding contemporary makeup (non-prosthetic) and outstanding single-camera picture editing for a drama series.

The Netflix science fiction horror series "Stranger Things" won for outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour), outstanding stunt coordination for a drama series, limited or anthology series or movie, outstanding prosthetic makeup, outstanding music supervision and outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (one hour).

HBO's satirical comedy-drama about the lives of the staff and guests at a tropical resort in Hawaii "The White Lotus" won for outstanding casting for a limited or anthology series or movie, outstanding sound mixing for a limited or anthology series or movie, outstanding single-camera picture editing for a limited or anthology series or movie, outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special (original dramatic score) and outstanding original main title theme music.

Programming must have premiered between June 1, 2021, and May 31, 2022, to be eligible for an Emmy.

Awards in the top 25 categories in comedy, drama, competition, limited, variety sketch and talk series and the Governors Award will be presented at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 12, also at the Microsoft Theater.
