SANTA ANA (CNS) - The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in Orange County rose by another 17 people to 196, according to the latest state data out Saturday.
Of those patients, 31 were being treated in intensive care, up from 25 on Friday.
Some COVID-positive patients likely entered the hospital for other reasons before testing positive for the virus. The county had 31.1% of its ICU beds available, well above the 20% level when officials become concerned.
Those numbers come one day after local health officials reported 3,720 new cases of COVID-19 from June 21 through June 23, along with another six deaths linked to the virus.
The county's adjusted daily case rate per 100,000 people was at 30.8 on a seven-day average with a seven-day lag, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. The test positivity rate was 15.1% overall and 14.6% in the health equity quartile, which measures the communities hardest hit by the pandemic.
