Person Found Dead Inside Burning Vehicle in Downtown Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A person was found dead inside a burning vehicle in downtown Los Angeles today.

Los Angeles Fire Department units responded just before 3:35 p.m. to a car fire near a commercial building at 1629 Maple Ave., near the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, according to the department's Margaret Stewart.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they could spread and damage the nearby building, but a person was found dead inside the car after the flames were doused.

The exact manner of the victim's death was not immediately known, and the person's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
