Irvine police Thursday released the names of the three people found dead in a suspected murder-suicide in a residence earlier this month.

Serge Poirer, who was 63, and Karina Poirier, who was 54, were identified through dental records, according to Irvine police Lt. Bill Bingham.

Investigators suspect the third person found dead was their son, 21-year-old Morgan Poirier, but authorities are seeking to confirm that through DNA evidence, Bingham said.

The three were found the morning of April 6 when a welfare check was requested by extended family members. They all sustained a gunshot wound and a gun was found at the scene, Bingham said.

The extended family reported to Canadian authorities that they had not been able to contact the three for more than a year, so Canadian authorities asked Irvine police to check on them, Bingham said.

When officers arrived they found the severely decomposed bodies, Bingham said. Police did not find any signs of forced entry in the home, and the evidence suggests it was a domestic-related incident that ended with a murder-suicide, Bingham said.
