Southwest's Crewmember Fatigue Is The Airline's '#1 Safety Threat'

Southwest Airlines pilots and crew are feeling increasingly exhausted and the issue has become the company's "number-one safety threat," union officials are warning the airline's CEO.

  • In a letter this week, the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association noted that a sharp rise in crew fatigue is due to poor scheduling, staff shortages, and increased passenger numbers.
But, a representative for Southwest said bad weather was partly to blame in March and that a spike in pilots calling out of work proves their system is "working as designed, allowing Crew to determine if they are too fatigued to fly."
  • Do you feel, in general, since the pandemic that more and more people are exhausted (especially with staff shortages so many businesses are facing)?
