LONG BEACH (CNS) - Authorities today identified a man who was hit by a pickup truck and killed while riding a bicycle in Long Beach.

The crash occurred at about 7:40 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Oregon Avenue and 17th Street, near Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Ayomipo Lawal of Long Beach, 22, died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner's office reported.

Lawal was struck by a Ford F250 pickup truck owned by the city of Long Beach, police said.

``The preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist was traveling westbound on 17th Street and did not stop for a stop sign at Oregon Avenue,'' police said in a statement. ``The driver of the Ford truck was traveling southbound on Oregon Avenue as the bicyclist ran the stop sign and the Ford stuck the bicyclist in the middle of the intersection.''

The motorist, a 59-year-old man employed by the city, remained on scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. His name was not released.

``Distracted driving, impaired driving, and speed are not believed to be a factor in this collision,'' police said.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to contact LBPD Detective Loughlin at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
