U.S. Soccer, USWNT Reach $24 Million Settlement In Equal Pay Dispute

U.S. Soccer and the United States Women's National Team (USWNT) have reached an agreement to end a six-year battle over equal pay, according to a joint statement Tuesday.

  • The deal means women's and men's national teams will receive an equal rate of pay for all friendlies and tournaments, including the World Cup.
  • As part of the agreement, U.S. Soccer will pay $22 million to the players in the case as well as an additional $2 million for girls' soccer charities.
  • U.S. Women have won four World Cups since 1985, while the men haven't placed higher than eighth in a World Cup since 1930.
  • U.S. midfielder Megan Rapinoe told ESPN, "There's no other way to look at it than just a monumental win for women's sports and women's soccer, in particular."
  • Do you agree that this settlement is monumental?
