LONG BEACH (CNS) - A 25-year-old man was in custody today for allegedly killing a homeless man in Long Beach in January.

Armando Train of Long Beach was arrested on Wednesday, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

Train was booked on suspicion of murder, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of narcotics and a parole violation. He was being held on $2 million bail, police said.

Eduardo Alonso, 30, who was homeless, was shot about 2 p.m. on Jan. 29 in the 1400 block of Long Beach Boulevard, and he died at the scene, police said.

``The preliminary investigation suggests the suspect ... was involved in an altercation with the victim inside a building that appeared to have been converted into an encampment by persons experiencing homelessness,'' police said shortly after the shooting.

A motive for the killing was not known, police said. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office early next week for filing consideration, police said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 562-570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
