LONG BEACH (CNS) - A man died today when the car he was driving crashed on an on-ramp to the Long Beach (710) Freeway in Long Beach.

The crash occurred about 2 a.m. north of Ocean Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The 23-year-old Compton man died at a hospital, police said. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

``Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a gray Honda Civic was heading northbound on the on-ramp when he failed to turn with the curved on-ramp and collided with a metal guard rail,'' police said in a statement.

``Speed is believed to have been a factor in the collision,'' police said. ``Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the collision.''

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
