Homeless Man Killed By Garbage Truck in Long Beach Alley

LONG BEACH (CNS) - A 57-year-old homeless man who was lying in an alley in Long Beach was run over by a garbage truck and died at the scene, authorities said today.

The death took place at around 1 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Del Rey Court and Anaheim Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said the driver of a privately owned garbage truck was backing up on Del Rey Court when he ran over the man. The 62-year-old driver from Norwalk remained at the scene and cooperated with police. He was later released from the scene.

The name of the deceased was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
