On Tuesday, rescue workers in Los Angeles say they were frantically searching for the drivers of three vehicles that were swept away by floodwaters resulting from Monday night's storm.

Among the incidents was one that occurred at about 5:39 a.m. when a white sedan was involved in a rollover crash near the rain-swollen Los Angeles River, according to a rep for the L.A. Fire Department. When emergency crews arrived, they couldn't find a vehicle anywhere -- and witnesses told them it had fallen into the river, per the LAFD.

Although the vehicle was later spotted trapped against a support column in the rushing water, emergency workers have not yet been able to get to it, says spokesperson Erik Scott.

"It's unclear if anyone is still in the vehicle," he added. "There’s no way that an individual can survive that... It's would be what we call a recovery effort at this point."
