CULVER CITY (CNS) - Two Culver City Police Department officers were injured while rescuing a resident from a burning home today.

The fire was reported about 9:55 a.m. at the house in the 10800 Block of Marietta Avenue, near Veterans Memorial Park, according to a CCPD statement.

``The elderly occupants were unable to exit the residence on their own,'' according to police. ``Two ... officers were the first to arrive on scene and realized the front door was locked as the house quickly became engulfed in flames.''

The two officers kicked down the door and were able to lead one of the occupants to safety before Culver City Fire Department units arrived on scene.

CCFD firefighters rescued the second resident before extinguishing the flames and clearing the home of any additional occupants, police said.

The two CCPD officers were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to make a full recovery. No other injuries were reported in the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
