SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Two men who police say they believe are the gunman and an accessory in the fatal shooting of a father are in custody today.

Jose Rodriguez, 30, and Eric Sanchez, 31, were arrested on Monday in connection with the shooting death of James Vargas as the victim walked to a taco stand in the Green Meadows neighborhood of South Los Angeles on Nov. 14 near Central Avenue and 92nd Street, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman confirmed to City News Service.

``I feel relief. I feel relief even though my brother isn't here anymore, I feel relief that this animal got caught,'' Manny Vargas, the victim's brother, told CBS 2.

CBS 2 reported that Rodriguez is believed to be the shooter and Sanchez as an accessory after the fact in the shooting.

According to news reports, witnesses to the shooting told police the suspect approached Vargas and asked him where he was from. Before the father of two could respond, the assailant shot him in the chest.

``On behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department, South Bureau Homicide Division would like to thank the California Department of Corrections and their Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Major Crimes Division, the California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Police Department Technical Investigation Division, and joint Los Angeles Police Department/Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department crime lab partners, along with the many business partners and community members who reached out in support of the Vargas family and provided their resources in these efforts,'' the LAPD said in a release.
