A motorist was killed today when a 2003 Infiniti overturned on the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway at Arlington Avenue, in the West Adams district. The victim, the lone occupant inside the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The Los Angeles resident was driving the Infinity in the No. 2 lane of the collector road when he lost control of the car and allowed it to veer onto the embankment north of the roadway, the CHP said. The Infinity subsequently began to overturn and struck a light pole. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 6:06 a.m., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

``Firefighters located a single-car traffic accident with one patient entrapped,'' Stewart said. ``An immediate extraction operation ensued and firefighter/paramedics accessed the patient to conduct an assessment. Unfortunately, the patient was beyond medical help and determined dead on scene.''

The CHP's Central Los Angeles office asked anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 213-744-2331.
