LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The National Weather Service today issued a Fire Weather Watch for much of Los Angeles County on Friday, warning of a dangerous combination of dry conditions, gusty Santa Ana winds and low relative humidity.

“Santa Ana winds are expected to form over most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. While uncertainty remains in the wind speeds, gusts between 30 and 45 mph are expected at this point,'' the weather service said Tuesday.

“Warm and very dry air is likely, however, with humidities lowering below 10 percent over much of the area. As a result, critical fire weather conditions are possible,'' the NWS added.

The watch will apply to the L.A. County coast, downtown L.A., the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, the L.A. County Mountains, the Angeles National Forest and the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.

The NWS forecast calls for northeast winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph and minimum relative humidity readings of between 6% and 12%.

“If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property,'' the NWS said.
