Town Hall Meeting Will Address Foul Odor in Carson

CARSON (CNS) - A town hall meeting to address the foul smell near the Dominguez Channel is scheduled at 4:30 today at the Carson Community Center, 801 E. Carson St.

The Los Angeles County Public Works department, Fire Department, Department of Public Health and the Air Quality Management District are investigating the channel at the intersection on South Avalon Boulevard in Carson, the source of the foul odor. Officials with the departments are working to identify the source of the odor.

In a news release from the Public Works department, it is recommended to prevent odors from entering homes that residents near the Dominguez Channel keep doors and windows closer when odors are present. Those who experience symptoms related to the odors are advised to contact their medical care provider.

Elevated levels of hydrogen sulfide have been detected in Carson, the South Coast AQMD reported in a Tweet. Inspectors are evaluating the sources of the odor and investigating.

The town hall meeting will be livestreamed through the Carson city website, ci.carson.ca.us. Those who want to participate can attend remotely. It will not be available for in-person participation.
