Navy Engineer, Wife Charged With Selling Nuclear Submarine Secrets

A Navy engineer and his wife have been charged with selling nuclear submarine secrets in exchange for cryptocurrency.

  • 42-year-old Jonathan Toebbe had top secret security clearance as a nuclear engineer for the Navy.
  • The Justice Department says he had been selling top secret info to an unidentified country - sometimes hiding the memory cards in a half-eaten sandwich or a pack of chewing gum - while his wife Diana served as a lookout.
  • The couple was arrested over the weekend, after trying to make a sale to a foreign operative that turned out to be an undercover FBI agent.
  • What kind of sentence should the Toebbes face for this? Does your job involve accessing any sensitive information?
