Authorities ID Man Killed in Shootout in East Hollywood Area

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Authorities today identified a man who police say was killed in a shootout in the East Hollywood area with another man, who was wounded and hospitalized.

Officers were called at 11:54 p.m. Monday to the 300 block of North Vermont Avenue near Beverly Boulevard, said Officer Lizeth Lomeli of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Freddy Machuca, 34, of Los Angeles, died at scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office. The other man was hospitalized in stable condition, Lomeli said. His name was not released.

Police believe the men fired shots at one another. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
